Youth Justice Program 08-40

A Full-time, Permanent position.

Job Description

The Youth Worker will provide support and monitoring of youth on probation and provide or arrange for curfew checks. The Youth Worker will support and supervise youth during community work service hours and generally as required by court order or extra-judicial sanctions. The Youth Worker will network with, and prepare written reports and/or required documentation for the MCFD Youth Probation Officers. The Youth Worker will provide transportation and support for youth in transition beds. This is a 35 hour per week position.

Qualifications

Prefer an under-graduate, and have experience working with youth on probation. Idea candidate will possess a strong knowledge of youth justice issues. Experience with or knowledge of issues such as substance abuse, mental health issues, and conduct disorders required. Ability to work in a collaborative manner with Youth Probation Officers, MCFD, community organizations, and other PACS staff delivering services to youth on probation. Must be computer literate. Must possess a valid BC Driver's License and have a vehicle meeting minimal operating standards.

Project Coordinator 08-39

A Part-time, Temporary position.

Job Description

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the annual Peace Arch Community Services "Community Resource Fair", open to the public and professionals, in the fall of 2008. Will work with an Advisory Committee to develop and grow the resource fair from the previous three years. Will collaborate with the Community Relations Coordinator in updating the PACS web site and updating and distributing posters and flyers to promote the fair.

This is a position for 4 months (July 2008 to October 2008) for a total of 180 hours plus 10 hours for evaluation and reporting. Hours to be flexible. An information binder from previous fairs is available for use as a reference.

Qualifications

Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills. Must be able to work with minimum supervision and direction. Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office, other software programs and web page design. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of public relations and marketing is an asset. Must be knowledgeable of White Rock/Surrey community. A valid driver's license and vehicle required.

Residential Worker

Job Description

It is the responsibility of the Residential Worker, under the direction of the Program Manager, to ensure that:
- a normative, home-like environment is provided in the residence
- the physical environment is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion
- planning, organization and implementation of daily routines are carried out in a collaborative manner with the individual client
- individualized personal service plans are developed
- the rights of the client are respected at all times

Qualifications

Prefer a degree or diploma in a discipline related to developmental disability with a minimum of two years practical experience. Working knowledge of various therapeutic behavioural management designs and intervention strategies. First Aid and CPR training is current and equivalent to WCB/Licensing requirements. Valid BC Driver's Licence required.

This position is one day a week only: Saturday 3pm - 10pm.

Child Care Worker

Mental Health Child and Family Services 08-41

A Part-time, Permanent position.

Job Description

The Mental Health Child and Family Services program is seeking interested individuals to provide as needed CCW services. The casual CCW will work with a referred client of the White Rock Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) office. The work involves outreach work for a specified number of hours per week supporting children and youth to increase life skills or cope with mental health issues. You will work in collaboration with a CYMH therapist to achieve goals or build skills. Note taking and preparation of reports as necessary.

Qualifications

Will ideally possess a Bachelors degree in social sciences or a combination of academic qualifications and experience. Experience would include an understanding of, and experience working with individuals with mental health issues, working with children and/or youth. Ability to liaise with other professionals and family members. Must have use of a vehicle; possess a driver's license with a clean driving record.

Present Opportunity

While we seek to develop a pool of potential CCW's that are willing to work with children and youth, we have a specific opportunity. We require a worker willing and able to work with a five (5) year old boy supporting to reduce angry outbursts and to be a positive role model. Other goals may be created in the course of the work. The family is requesting 2-3 hours per week of direct service for approximately 3 months with possible follow up.
